Syrian Man Accused of Second Rape After German Release

A 26-year-old Syrian man, identified as Ahmad A., is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Munich, Germany, in July 2025, just weeks after he was released from custody while under investigation for the rape of a 16-year-old girl. The incident occurred on July 15, 2025, after the woman encountered Ahmad A. near an underground station and asked him for a cigarette.

According to the indictment, Ahmad A. and two other men, Haidar A., 31, and Mousa H., 27, both from Yemen, allegedly took the woman to an isolated staircase beneath the Wittelsbacher Bridge. Ahmad A. is accused of dragging the woman down the stairs as she resisted. All three are charged with taking turns to rape her. Following the alleged assault, the men reportedly walked back toward a petrol station with the victim. The woman later escaped by attracting the attention of a group of people.

The three suspects were arrested in September 2025. The case is currently being heard at Munich I Regional Court. Ahmad A.'s lawyer, Michael Weiss, has stated that his client claims the encounter was consensual.

Ahmad A. was initially arrested on February 27, 2025, following the alleged rape of the 16-year-old at an asylum accommodation center in Munich. He was released on April 8, 2025. Prosecutors requested the suspension of his arrest warrant, citing the inability to question the teenage victim due to her psychological state. The public prosecutor's office explained that under these circumstances, they could no longer meet the requirement to expedite proceedings for individuals in custody.

Upon his release, Ahmad A. was required to report to the police twice a week and was prohibited from contacting the teenage victim or a witness.

In November 2025, Ahmad A. was convicted in the earlier case involving the teenage girl and sentenced to two years and six months in prison. He faces further imprisonment if convicted in the second case. The circumstances of his release from pre-trial detention for the first alleged offense have raised questions regarding the progression of that investigation.
