Sydney Sweeney Recreates Iconic Cate Blanchett Gown
The "Anyone But You" star donned a custom creation inspired by Blanchett's 2005 Golden Globes look.
Sydney Sweeney recently paid tribute to actress Cate Blanchett's memorable 2005 Golden Globes attire by wearing a custom gown designed by Paris-based label Guérin. The ensemble, a pale blue silk georgette creation, draws a direct parallel to the cornflower blue Jean Paul Gaultier dress Blanchett wore nearly two decades prior.
Sweeney shared images of the gown in a carousel of summer snapshots over the weekend. The custom dress features draped fabric from the shoulder, a cinched waist, and a single silk flower accent at the hip. Beneath the flowing material, a hidden nude mesh corset provides structure, emphasizing Sweeney's silhouette. The designer, Antoine Guérin, personalized the gown's label with Sweeney's initials, "S.S.," stitched in matching blue thread.
Sweeney's stylist, Athina Arostegui, confirmed the inspiration on Instagram, posting a photo of Blanchett at the 2005 ceremony. Blanchett's original Jean Paul Gaultier gown featured an asymmetrical neckline and a flowing sheer cape. The silk jersey of her dress was artfully tucked and folded into blossoms at the bodice and hip, giving it a more relaxed fit compared to Sweeney's corseted interpretation.
This is not the first time Sweeney has drawn inspiration from iconic Hollywood looks. In March, she wore a custom silvery blue Miu Miu gown to the GLAAD Media Awards that echoed Julia Roberts' lavender dress from the film "My Best Friend's Wedding." Earlier in the year, at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Sweeney donned a vintage Ceil Chapman design previously worn by Marilyn Monroe.
