Actress Sydney Sweeney has continued to promote her lingerie line, SYRN, posting a series of images and videos showcasing new pieces from the brand. The promotions come in the wake of recent criticism surrounding her character's storyline in the HBO series "Euphoria" and a perceived snub in the Emmy nominations.
Sweeney, 28, shared content featuring herself in various lingerie items, including a black lace bra, a corset, and a bodysuit. In one instance, she presented a black see-through lace bra, suspender belt, and mesh gloves, describing pieces as her "favorite." She also highlighted a black bodysuit, calling it "one of my favorite pieces."
The promotional posts followed a week where Sweeney was noted as a significant omission from the Emmy Award nominations for her role in "Euphoria." Her co-star Zendaya, however, received a nomination for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
This period of public attention also coincides with "Euphoria" creator Sam Levinson's defense of Sweeney's character, Cassie Howard's, storyline, which involved an OnlyFans and sex work arc. Levinson discussed the occupation on "Real Time with Bill Maher," stating that OnlyFans has become a "massive enterprise" and that he wanted to explore its "long-term consequences" for young people.
Levinson acknowledged the criticism directed at the show for these scenes, noting that they "caught a lot of criticism" and questioning if the same backlash would occur if the storyline were affirmed. He suggested the show takes a "critical look" at such paths, describing it as something that "hollows out the individual."
Sweeney herself has previously commented on her character's arc, telling Vanity Fair that she is "playing a character" who has a "need to be validated by other people" and "doesn't know how to love herself unless someone else loves her."
Some social media users reacted to Sweeney's recent promotional posts by urging her to "find Jesus," while others compared her to her "Euphoria" character Cassie. However, many also praised her posts, with model Livvy Dunne reportedly posting a GIF of Leonardo DiCaprio in "The Wolf of Wall Street."
