Actress Sydney Sweeney and her boyfriend, music executive Scooter Braun, have been actively involved in supporting relief efforts for those affected by devastating wildfires in Spokane, Washington. The couple volunteered their time to help distribute meals and supplies to affected residents and firefighters.
Sweeney, who grew up in Spokane, expressed her deep connection to the community, noting that the fires had impacted members of her own family and friends. She took to social media to share messages of support and to highlight organizations on the ground working to assist those displaced by the blaze. "Spokane has always been home to me. It's where I grew up, where my family still lives, and where so many of the people and places that shaped me are," Sweeney stated.
The wildfires scorched over 10,546 acres and affected at least 700 structures, leading to widespread evacuations and damage. Sweeney highlighted that communities like Spokane often do not receive the same level of national attention and resources as larger cities, emphasizing the community's need for support. She shared links to organizations such as Innovia Foundation, SpokAnimal, Watch Duty, and Second Harvest, encouraging donations to aid in the recovery and rebuilding process.
Sweeney and Braun worked with organizations like Second Harvest Food Bank and World Central Kitchen, providing food to firefighters and preparing meals for those displaced by the fires. The actress also reportedly made significant donations to relief efforts and worked with local restaurants to secure food and shelter for residents. She reposted information from Baby2Baby, which indicated the delivery of nearly 350,000 emergency supplies for children and families.
This involvement comes as authorities apprehended Aaron F. Farinacci, 37, on suspicion of first-degree arson in connection with the blaze. Farinacci has denied starting the fire. Records indicate he had been questioned by authorities in previous fire-related investigations and had previously served time in prison for manslaughter and aggravated assault.
Sweeney's personal connection to Spokane is deep-rooted, with her family having owned property there for five generations. She shared that her family relocated to Los Angeles after the 2008 economic crash, which impacted her father's employment and led to the loss of their home. Upon achieving success in Hollywood, Sweeney purchased the house her great-grandparents once owned, describing the ability to reclaim that family memory as "very special."
