Fresh claims have surfaced via WhatsApp messages concerning an incident involving Sydney Swans players, lap dancers, and an alleged filming during a post-match celebration, deepening the controversy and prompting investigations.
Sources indicate that following a win against Essendon, a group of approximately 11 players continued their celebrations at the Maeve Fox venue, where they were observed consuming shots. The event later moved to a hotel room where lap dancers were present.
While the presence of lap dancers is not disputed, new allegations circulating through WhatsApp suggest a camera may have been set up in the hotel room. The purpose of this alleged camera is unclear; it is uncertain whether it was for the players' use or for the entertainers' protection. Further fueling these claims, an earlier batch of WhatsApp messages, purportedly from a witness in the hotel lobby, alleged that one of the women stated she had "recorded" events inside the room.
The Sydney Swans' club chief executive, Matthew Pavlich, addressed the allegations at a press conference, stating that the matter was potentially part of a police inquiry and that the club would not comment further on specifics. He did not directly confirm or deny the existence of a recording.
Player Isaac Heeney is reportedly a focus of the ongoing police probe into an alleged sexual assault. He is understood to have voluntarily spoken with police for a longer duration than some of his teammates. However, it is emphasized that these are allegations, and no charges have been laid. Both the police and the AFL integrity unit are conducting investigations.
Reports also suggest that two small 'baggies' were discovered at the scene and are currently being tested. No player has claimed ownership of these items. The Swans reportedly asked the AFL to impose two-week suspensions as an initial disciplinary measure for the players involved.
The incident allegedly escalated around 7 a.m. when women from the hotel room encountered men in Swans gear in the lobby, leading to a confrontation. Coach Dean Cox reportedly intervened to de-escalate the situation. A team meeting was subsequently called, with some players reportedly surprised by the revelations.
The situation has reportedly caused significant friction within the Swans' playing group, and the club's handling of the players involved is also under scrutiny.
