Michael Scherrer, a 48-year-old content creator from Lake Konstanz, Switzerland, has spent a year constructing a detailed miniature Greek village in his backyard. The project, which cost £10,000, is part of a larger £20,000 theme park that Scherrer is building on his property.
The village features authentic cobbled streets, blue shutters, and a traditional bar, designed to evoke the atmosphere of a Greek summer getaway. Scherrer stated that he and his brother, Samuel, chose the theme because the white and blue color scheme was relatively simple to implement after a more complex fairytale alleyway project.
"I wanted to make somewhere we could sit in the theme park to have a chat with our clients, so I thought of this," Scherrer explained. "It took longer than you think to build because of permissions in Switzerland and having to break for the weather."
The miniature village itself measures 15 by 15 meters. Scherrer noted that visitors find it difficult to stand up properly within the small-scale environment. He expressed that when he enters the village during the summer, he feels transported.
Scherrer's garden project is extensive, with a total of 1500 square meters available for development, of which 600 square meters have been completed so far. The theme park includes various themed areas inspired by different countries, ideas, and seasons, such as a small Irish bar and Halloween-themed spaces.
Looking ahead, Scherrer hopes to use one of the small homes in the Greek village as a guest bedroom during the spring months. He is also planning to add a fishing village and potentially a pirate ship to his garden.
This project follows a trend of miniature village creations, including a Grade II-listed farmhouse in Oxfordshire that was listed for £1.6 million in March. That property featured a model village in its front garden, complete with miniature cottages, churches, and a pond.
