A swimmer sustained a significant injury to his foot in what lifeguards suspect was a shark attack at Jones Beach State Park on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred around 12 p.m. at Field 6, when the man suffered a bite that sources told The Post exposed bone.

The swimmer was able to reach shore and report the injury to lifeguards, who provided initial aid by wrapping his foot in a shirt. Emergency medical services transported the man for further treatment. Although the swimmer did not see the creature responsible, lifeguards identified the attack as likely being from a shark.

The attack prompted a response from beach officials, but details regarding any closures or increased monitoring were not immediately available.
