Swansea University is undertaking significant development, including the construction of a new National Institute for Sport and Health, slated for completion in 2027. This facility aims to improve population health, elevate elite and community sports, and foster technological innovation and economic growth through partnerships between public, private, and academic entities. The institute will be located at the entrance to the Sports Park on the Bay Campus.

In addition to the new institute, the university has upgraded its sports hall with a new sprung floor and improved lighting and ventilation. Its original Singleton Park campus has also seen enhancements to its lecture theaters. These developments follow a 10% increase in applications for courses beginning in September 2025. Swansea University has a policy of making offers to all UK applicants who are studying the required qualifications for their chosen course, considering predicted grades, personal statements, and prior achievement.

The university organized into three faculties: humanities and social sciences; medicine, health and life science; and science and engineering. Medical, healthcare, engineering, and technology programs represent the largest student contingents, followed by business and social sciences.

Financial Support and Scholarships

In the 2024-25 academic year, approximately one in six undergraduates received financial support from Swansea University. This support primarily comes from hardship funds, which have increased by 21% over the past two years to address growing needs. The university distributed £666,000 in hardship awards during that period. The university also offers several scholarships, including the Excellence Scholarship (£3,000 for students achieving AAA or equivalent), the Merit Scholarship (£2,000 for students achieving AAB or equivalent), Welsh-medium scholarships (£300 or £100), sports scholarships (up to £2,000 cash plus services), and music scholarships (£650 per year plus tuition).

Accommodation and Admissions

Swansea University provides 3,745 rooms across its Singleton Park and Bay campuses, as well as at Beck House. Room prices for a 40-week tenancy at Singleton Park range from £6,280 for a standard room with a shared bathroom to £8,320 for a premium en suite. Part-catered options are available between £7,120 and £7,480. At the Bay campus, prices range from £6,204 to £11,220 for 44 and 51-week contracts, respectively. The most affordable rooms are at Beck House, priced at £5,984 for a 44-week contract.

The university's Guaranteed Offer policy means that all applicants studying the required qualifications for their course will receive an offer, with the specific terms determined by predicted grades, subject mix, prior achievement, and personal statements. The university encourages applicants to contact them if they have concerns about their offer or receive a competing offer from another institution.

Student Well-being and Support Services

Swansea University offers comprehensive support services for its students. Wellbeing and disability officers, mental health practitioners, and caseworkers provide support sessions and counseling. A dedicated service is also available for students with Autistic Spectrum Condition. Students have 24/7 access to online mental health support through the Togetherall app. Campus security provides round-the-clock cover, including mental health first aid and suicide intervention, and encourages students to use the SafeZone app for immediate assistance. All staff undergo mandatory training in safeguarding and mental health awareness. A pilot Residence Life program at the Bay campus aims to enhance care in halls and support student transitions, with plans for a wider rollout if successful. Pre-arrival digital content and in-person training sessions address topics such as sexual consent, drug and alcohol awareness, healthy relationships, and mental health.
