US Marshals have arrested two suspects in connection with a deadly home invasion that occurred in Milford, Connecticut, on June 3. The investigation culminated in the capture of Ivan Barias-Florimon, 24, in New York City and the earlier arrest of Stuar Lopez-Reyes, 25, in Connecticut.
Barias-Florimon was apprehended by the US Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force in the Bronx on Tuesday. He had been identified as the second suspect involved in the shooting death of Frederick Raymond Werner, 69. Werner and his wife were shot inside their East Broadway home when Barias-Florimon and Lopez-Reyes allegedly broke in.
Werner's wife sustained a gunshot wound to the head and is currently recovering in the hospital. Barias-Florimon faces charges including felony murder, conspiracy to commit murder, home invasion, attempted murder, and first-degree assault on an elderly person. Milford Police have stated the incident was not random and may have been targeted.
Milford and New Haven police, along with US Marshals, arrested Lopez-Reyes on Thursday. He is being held on a $3 million bond in a Bridgeport, Connecticut, jail and is scheduled to appear in court on August 11. Barias-Florimon was arraigned Tuesday in New York Criminal Court and ordered remanded without bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 18.
Frederick Werner is remembered as someone who "embraced life to the fullest," enjoying golf, boating, and time by the ocean. He is survived by his wife, sister, two daughters, and three grandchildren. The investigation into the case remains ongoing.
