Suspected Overdose Reported in Oxford, Mississippi, Miles From Ole Miss
A 22-year-old individual survived a suspected overdose on Thursday, with authorities reporting the presence of "synthetic kratom products" in their possession.

Authorities in Oxford, Mississippi, responded to a suspected overdose incident on Thursday involving a 22-year-old individual who was not a student at the University of Mississippi. The individual survived the incident, which occurred miles from the university campus. Police stated that "synthetic kratom products" were found in the victim's possession.
This latest incident is separate from the ongoing investigations into the deaths of two University of Mississippi students on September 21. Officials are treating those deaths as separate incidents. Kratom products were also found near the scenes of those two student deaths.
However, Oxford Police Department officials emphasized that Thursday's incident is not connected to the student death investigations. They also indicated that there is currently no indication the kratom products found with the 22-year-old victim were purchased in the Oxford area. The victim in the Thursday incident is not affiliated with the university.
