A suspected murderer died of a heart attack while attempting to drag his girlfriend's body through the woods in Lanett, Alabama, according to an autopsy.

Daniel Robbins, 44, and mother-of-three Jessica Folds, 47, were discovered dead on June 10 in a wooded area. Chambers County Sheriff Jeff Nelson stated that Folds was found with her hands raised over her head, while Robbins was discovered in a fetal position nearby. Investigators noted a visible drag path from a pickup truck at the scene.

An autopsy confirmed that Folds had been strangled to death. While the exact location of the murder is unknown, police suspect Robbins killed Folds during a domestic incident the night prior to their discovery. District Attorney Mike Segrest told AL.com that authorities believe Robbins died of a heart attack while trying to dispose of Folds' remains.

Police were alerted to the location after a passerby noticed an abandoned pickup truck on a dirt road. The truck was reportedly left running with the driver's side door open and the tailgate down. Officials followed drag marks from the tailgate into the brush where the bodies were found. The passerby initially mistook the scene for mannequins.

Robbins had a known pre-existing heart condition, his ex-wife told WTVM, though officials have not confirmed if this contributed to his death. Folds, who lived a few miles from where her body was found, and Robbins, from Macon, Georgia, were in a relationship.

Folds was a mother of three adult sons and had two grandchildren. Her obituary describes her as having a "heart of gold, deep love for everyone, and smile that brightened the world." Robbins had one daughter. His obituary, which has since been removed, noted his love for the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and racing, and his work in welding and farming.

Deputies found the 47-year-old with her hands raised over her head. Robbins was next to her in the fetal position. Their remains were found in the brush off of County Road 86

The motive for the killing remains under investigation. Public records indicate that Folds' husband of five years passed away in February 2025.
