A suspected shoplifter in Ohio attempted a dramatic escape from police by leaping onto the hood of a civilian's sport utility vehicle while it was in motion on Interstate 75. The incident occurred after the suspect and an accomplice were pulled over by Miami Township police on suspicion of shoplifting from a nearby Kroger store.
According to authorities, the suspect fled from the initial police stop, ran across an on-ramp to I-75, and then jumped onto a woman's passing SUV. Video footage from the scene shows the individual clinging to the side of the vehicle before managing to get onto its hood. The suspect then reportedly broke the windshield in an apparent attempt to force the driver to stop or relinquish the vehicle.
The suspect eventually fell from the vehicle and was apprehended by Miamisburg police. Authorities transported the individual to a local hospital. The driver of the SUV was not injured, though her vehicle sustained damage to its windshield.
The suspect faces charges including aggravated robbery, theft, and obstructing official business. His accomplice was charged with complicity to theft.
