Philadelphia police have identified Khadfi Fleming as a suspect in the theft of an off-duty police officer's vehicle and a person of interest in the June 6 murder of Penn State University student Billy Schmidt.

Fleming, 19, is wanted in connection with the carjacking incident. Police stated that on the night of the incident, officers observed a red Lexus driving without headlights, followed by a dark SUV. Two males were seen running towards the Lexus before shots were fired. The suspects then stole a green Dodge Charger belonging to an off-duty police officer, who pursued them and confronted them before gunfire erupted.

Schmidt, 22, was killed during what appeared to be an armed robbery attempt. Police found the journalism student with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead shortly after. Surveillance video reportedly shows Schmidt chasing the suspects, saying, "Give me my phone." A phone is seen thrown on the ground, and seconds later, a gunshot is heard.

Schmidt was studying journalism at Penn State World Campus and was scheduled to graduate in December.

Authorities have already taken Fleming's 16-year-old brother into custody in Colorado in June. A second teenager also turned himself in to police. Fleming, however, remains at large, and law enforcement has issued a wanted poster for him.
