A police pursuit in Los Angeles, which lasted for close to two hours, ended with a suspect in custody in North Hollywood Wednesday night. The driver, sought for allegedly assaulting a police officer, led authorities through residential streets and freeways before being apprehended.
During the chase, which began around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, the suspect was driving a white Lexus sedan. The pursuit traversed multiple communities as spectators gathered to watch, with some filming the event on their phones.
At one point, a bystander on a bench reportedly dropped his pants and exposed his buttocks to passing police vehicles and the news helicopter covering the chase. The helicopter filming the incident quickly zoomed out in response.
The pursuit continued onto the 101 Freeway after initially being on surface streets in North Hollywood. The suspect, reportedly associated with an Armenian gang and facing multiple felony charges, then proceeded onto the 5 Freeway at a reduced speed of approximately 30 mph, with a damaged front tire.
For the duration of the chase, the suspect appeared calm, at times smoking cigarettes out of the window. LAPD officials considered involving specialized units due to the extended nature of the pursuit.
The chase concluded when the suspect pulled into a Rodeway Inn. The individual then attempted to flee on foot into the second floor of the building, where officers apprehended him.
