Chesterfield County Police have arrested Camron Harris, 19, in connection with a shooting that injured five people, one critically, at Virginia State University early Saturday. Harris was apprehended more than 12 hours after the incident, found hiding in a closet in Seward Hall, a campus residence building.

Harris, who is not a student at the university, faces eight felony warrants, including four for malicious wounding and four for the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is being held without bond. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

The shooting occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. Saturday outside the university's residence halls, prompting an initial lockdown that has since been lifted. A significant law enforcement presence remains on campus as the investigation continues.

Of the five individuals wounded, one was a 20-year-old VSU student who sustained non-life-threatening injuries and has been released from the hospital. The other four victims, who are not students, include a 21-year-old man initially listed with life-threatening injuries who was later upgraded to critical condition, a 23-year-old man, a 20-year-old man, a 19-year-old woman, and a 17-year-old.

Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger and U.S. Senator Mark Warner (D-Va.) issued statements expressing concern for those injured and the VSU community.

The investigation is being led by Chesterfield County Police with assistance from the Virginia State University Police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Chesterfield County Police, Crime Solvers, or VSU Police.
