Tech billionaire Susan Dell attended a White House announcement on Monday, joining President Donald Trump to celebrate the launch of his new policy, dubbed 'Trump Accounts,' designed to invest government funds in newborns.
Dell, 62, was present in the Oval Office alongside her husband, Michael Dell, CEO of Dell Technologies, and other prominent figures including Jeffrey Sprecher, CEO of Intercontinental Exchange, and U.S. Senator Ted Cruz. Dell's attire, a sleeveless black dress, drew attention to her toned arms. The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation website describes her as an 'accomplished athlete' with a history of competing in marathons, triathlons, and the Ironman World Championships, and notes her past service on President Bush's Council for Physical Fitness and Sports.
The 'Trump Accounts' initiative awards an eligible child born between approximately 2025 and 2028 a $1,000 investment account. Deposits for these accounts began on July 4, and funds are accessible to the recipient upon turning 18. The policy includes restrictions on the use of these funds, such as for purchasing a home or covering educational expenses. Parents, family members, and friends can contribute to these accounts.
Investments will be directed toward exchange-traded funds (ETFs), providing children with exposure to the U.S. stock market. The White House projects that, without additional contributions, an account could grow to approximately $5,800 by age 18 and $18,100 by age 28.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that six million 'Trump Accounts' have already been established. "Already six million American children have signed up, 86 percent of them with families earning less than $200,000," Bessent said. He added that "1.4 million of those accounts will receive $1,000 from the U.S. Treasury." The program has also benefited from philanthropic donations from industry leaders, including Michael Dell and Altimeter Capital boss Brad Gerstner, who is credited as the policy's architect. "They're putting up a lot of money," Trump remarked during the announcement, with Gerstner and Dell present.
