A woman who was raped by Tom Silvagni has issued a powerful plea for discretion and empathy as speculation grows around an alleged sexual assault incident involving Sydney Swans players at a Melbourne hotel.

The woman, whose identity is protected for legal reasons, spoke out Tuesday, drawing parallels between her own highly public legal battle and the ongoing discussions on social media concerning the incident at the Pullman East Melbourne. Victoria Police are investigating the alleged assault, which reportedly occurred early Monday.

"With all the current headlines in the Australian media right now, it's so important to remember that behind all these headlines is a real person, a survivor who's already trying to comprehend what happened on the weekend, and now is seeing their very personal experience discussed all over social media and the news," she stated.

Sydney Swans players Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, James Jordon, and Riley Bice were named in media reports as individuals who voluntarily assisted investigators. Police have not identified any suspects, and no players have been accused of any wrongdoing.

Victoria Police confirmed their attendance at the Pullman East Melbourne after receiving a report of a sexual assault. The incident reportedly followed the team's win over Essendon at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, after which some players reportedly visited a bar before returning to the hotel. Witnesses described seeing distressed women interacting with hotel staff and Swans officials in the hotel foyer around 7 a.m. Monday.

The woman emphasized that the current situation should not be treated as entertainment or reduced to discussions about athletes' careers. "This isn't gossip to go and talk about with your friends, this is someone's real traumatic experience," she said.

She shared her personal experience of enduring a public criminal case after being raped by Tom Silvagni, son of Carlton football identity Stephen Silvagni. In December 2025, a County Court jury convicted Silvagni of two counts of rape following a 10-day trial. The court heard that Silvagni deceived the woman into believing he was another man with whom she had engaged in consensual activity before she became suspicious and recognized him. Silvagni was sentenced to six years and two months in prison, with a non-parole period of three years and three months. He is currently appealing his conviction.

"Before you comment on this topic next time, just keep in mind there's a real person behind this, a survivor with a strength and courage, but also someone who needs as much peace and comfort as they can right now," the woman urged.

She directed a message to the alleged survivor in the Swans case, stating, "I hear you and believe you and my DM's are always open."
