Surrey County Council has initiated its annual 'Warm Welcome' scheme, providing a refuge in community venues and libraries for residents facing difficulties with heating costs during the autumn and winter months. The initiative, running until March 31, 2027, offers free hot drinks and a space for social interaction in over 100 locations throughout the county.
A map detailing participating venues is available on the council's website.
"Keeping warm at home has become a challenge," stated Mark Nuti, cabinet member for health, wellbeing, and public health. "No-one should have to feel isolated and cold in their own home. Each space may offer something slightly different but they are all united by a shared commitment to providing warmth, kindness, connections and of course, a cup of tea."
The program, which began in 2022, also provides energy advice and assistance in accessing other support services. It is funded by the Crisis and Resilience Fund, a government initiative aimed at supporting individuals with low incomes.
