Suri Cruise, the 20-year-old daughter of actors Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has legally dropped her father's last name, changing it to Suri Noelle. The name change was noted in voter registration records in Pennsylvania, where Suri attends college at Carnegie Mellon University. Residents are required to use their legal name for voter registration.

According to reports, Suri may have officially changed her name in New York, where name change records are typically sealed. She has reportedly been estranged from her father for years, following his 2012 divorce from Holmes and her decision to cut ties with Scientology. The last public photograph of Cruise with Suri was from a 2012 trip to Disneyland.

Suri's decision to adopt her mother's middle name as her surname follows a pattern seen with children of other estranged celebrity couples, such as those of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. While the exact date of the legal name change is unclear, Suri has been using the name Noelle publicly for several years, including on her high school graduation materials in June 2024 and the casting sheet for her senior year play.

Holmes and Cruise married in 2006 and divorced in 2012. Since the divorce, Holmes has had sole custody of Suri. Sources have indicated that Suri has had no contact with her father since 2013 and considers him nonexistent in her life. She reportedly feels she has only one parent, her mother.

Holmes, who began romancing artist Jason Bard Yarmosky in 2024, became an empty nester when Suri began her freshman year at Carnegie Mellon in August 2024. Holmes expressed pride in her daughter's academic pursuits, noting the excitement of this new beginning. An insider described Suri as a smart and mature young woman with a close circle of friends.

Suri is also following in her parents' acting footsteps, majoring in musical theater. She is scheduled to appear in a contemporary adaptation of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," titled "Midsummer!" The production will have a limited run in Pittsburgh in July 2024 before heading to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in the UK in August 2026. Tom Cruise has two other adult children, Isabella and Connor, whom he adopted during his marriage to Nicole Kidman.
