Supreme Partners with NYC to Launch City-Branded Merchandise
The streetwear giant will sell items featuring 'NYPD' and 'Made in NY' trademarks through 2028.
Streetwear brand Supreme has entered into an agreement with New York City to produce and sell merchandise bearing city-owned trademarks, including those of the NYPD and the "Made in NY" initiative. The partnership, formalized through a non-exclusive contract with NYC Tourism + Conventions, allows Supreme to utilize these trademarks on products through 2028, with an option for the city's marketing arm to extend the pact until 2030.
Under the terms of the agreement, Supreme will pay the city 6% of its net profits from sales of items featuring city logos, in addition to an initial lump sum of $22,000. This collaboration extends the city's practice of partnering with established brands, which also includes agreements with Nike and J. Crew, to leverage its trademarks for promotional purposes.
Supreme has already begun releasing items under this new deal, including DSNY (Department of Sanitation) hoodies priced at $188 and FDNY (Fire Department) baseball caps retailing for $58. These items have reportedly sold out quickly, with customers expressing enthusiasm for the New York-centric designs. Shoppers noted that the specific New York branding appeals to those wanting to represent the city.
This venture marks a significant collaboration for Supreme, a brand long associated with New York City's cultural landscape and popular among celebrities. The New York Post itself has previously engaged with Supreme, running limited-edition wraparound cover advertisements in 2018 and August that became collectible items. An NYC Tourism + Conventions spokesperson stated that the organization welcomes partnerships with brands that support New York City trademarks.
