The Supreme Court on Monday rejected an appeal from former President Donald Trump regarding a $5 million jury verdict that found him liable for sexual abuse and defamation against E. Jean Carroll.
With the Supreme Court's refusal to hear the appeal, Trump is now obligated to pay the $5 million awarded to the former advice columnist. The verdict stems from Carroll's accusation that Trump sexually assaulted her in the mid-1990s. Trump has consistently denied her allegations.
This ruling is separate from another Manhattan federal court case in which a jury awarded Carroll $83.3 million for defaming her. That larger verdict is currently under appeal in lower courts.
