Supreme Court Blocks Missouri's New Congressional Map for 2026 Election
The nation's highest court orders the state to revert to its 2022 map, preventing a potential Republican advantage.
The Supreme Court has ordered Missouri to use its 2022 congressional map for the 2026 elections, effectively blocking the state from implementing a newer map that critics argued could have benefited Republicans.
The unsigned order issued on Friday stated that lower courts should not prohibit the use of the 2022 map nor require the state to adopt the 2025 map. This decision resolves the immediate legal dispute over which congressional map Missouri will utilize for the upcoming election cycle.
"The District Court and Court of Appeals should not enjoin or otherwise prohibit the use of the 2022 map in the 2026 congressional election in Missouri," the court's order read. It further specified, "And the District Court and Court of Appeals should not order or otherwise require Missouri to use the 2025 map in the 2026 congressional election in Missouri."
The ruling leaves the older congressional district boundaries in place, preventing the contested 2025 map from taking effect in the 2026 election.
