The Supreme Court on Monday again rejected former President Donald Trump's attempt to overturn a jury's $5 million verdict that found him liable for sexually abusing writer E. Jean Carroll in the mid-1990s and later defaming her. Trump's lawyers had asked the justices to reconsider their prior refusal to hear his appeal in the case.

The court denied Trump's petition without comment, along with several other appeals. This action follows Trump's payment of the $5 million judgment shortly after the court initially declined to consider his appeal in June.

Trump and the Justice Department are also seeking the Supreme Court's intervention in a separate case where a jury awarded Carroll $83 million. In that appeal, they argue that Trump is immune from lawsuits concerning comments he made about Carroll in 2019, when he was president. The Supreme Court has not yet ruled on this second appeal.

Carroll, a longtime advice columnist and former television host, testified during a 2023 trial that Trump's alleged sexual assault occurred in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in Manhattan during a casual encounter in the 1990s. A jury later found Trump liable for defamation when he denied her allegations in 2022.

Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing in connection with Carroll's claims.
