Costumed characters, including Wonder Woman, Mario, and the Hulk, participated in the inaugural "SUPer Hero Show Down" paddleboard race on Sunday near Harbor Island in San Diego. The event served as a prelude to the official start of San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2026.

Participants navigated a one-mile course, competing for prizes in categories such as fastest racer, best super costume, and best sidekick. The fastest racer received a one-night stay at the Sheraton San Diego Resort.

All proceeds from the event were donated to Fisher House Southern California, Inc., an organization that supports military and veteran families receiving care at the Naval Medical Center San Diego by providing lodging.

San Diego Comic-Con 2026 is scheduled to run from July 23 to July 26, with a Preview Night on July 22. This year's convention is set to feature highly anticipated panels, including discussions with Mel Brooks for "Spaceballs 2," director Zach Cregger for "Weapons," and Academy Award-winner Guillermo Del Toro. Marvel Studios is also expected to present, with speculation about a potential debut of the trailer for "Avengers: Doomsday." The cast and crew of "King of the Hill" will also be present.

Apple TV+ will make its debut at the convention, offering sneak peeks of its series "Widow’s Bay," the sci-fi shows "Silo" and "Dark Matter," and upcoming summer films like "Matchbox." Additionally, the creative team behind "Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender" will present exclusive previews and insights into the upcoming animated theatrical film on Friday, July 24.
