Super Bowl Champ Otis Wilson Involved in Altercation at Soldier Field
Chicago police are investigating an incident between former Bears linebacker Otis Wilson and security guards at Soldier Field following a game.
Chicago police are investigating an altercation that occurred at Soldier Field between former Bears Super Bowl champion linebacker Otis Wilson and stadium security. The incident reportedly took place in an elevator after the Bears' victory over the Jets.
Monterrey Security, the firm responsible for security at Bears games, alleged that Wilson attempted to use an elevator on suite level A without proper credentials. According to the company, a female security officer "politely" asked Wilson to use a different elevator. Monterrey Security claims Wilson then "forced his way onto the elevator" and became physical with the female officer, throwing her into a wall and causing significant damage.
Wilson presented a different account, stating that he and his wife were "assaulted" after the security guard approached them. He described his wife as having been "physically assaulted."
An ESPN reporter, who was present, witnessed part of the event. The reporter stated that the elevator was designated for media use only when Wilson and his wife entered. The female security officer requested they leave, as only working media were permitted to use it at that time to access postgame interviews. The officer reportedly made several requests for Wilson to exit the elevator. When the doors closed, reporters heard a forceful impact, and when the doors reopened, the female officer was seen on the ground next to the wall.
The female security officer, who is described as an off-duty law enforcement officer and has worked at the stadium since 2024, was not identified. Both Wilson and the female officer sought medical attention at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Chicago police confirmed they dispatched officers to the hospital to file an incident report and stated that an active investigation is underway. Both parties have indicated their willingness to cooperate with the authorities.
In a statement to ESPN, Wilson said, "No one, whether a former player, a season ticket holder, or a first-time visitor, should ever be subjected to this kind of treatment at a public venue. A misunderstanding about access to an area should never escalate to physical violence, least of all against a woman who posed no threat to anyone." He emphasized that the incident reflected the conduct of private contractors rather than the Bears organization itself.
