The View co-host Sunny Hostin is facing online criticism after bodycam footage emerged of her intervening when police issued her son a trespassing ticket. Critics have pointed to Hostin's past on-air remarks, where she has stated that "no one is above the law."
The incident occurred on June 16 when Hostin's 24-year-old son, Gabriel, was cited for trespassing after allegedly wandering onto active railroad tracks through an open gate. According to reports, Hostin, upon arriving at the scene, identified herself to New Rochelle police as a co-host of The View and a former federal prosecutor.
During the interaction captured on police bodycam, Hostin can be heard asking officers not to issue the ticket. Subsequent court records indicate Hostin sent a letter to the local District Attorney requesting the case be dismissed, citing her son's Ivy League education, community service, clean record, and her own background as a federal prosecutor.
This situation has drawn comparisons to Hostin's public statements on accountability. In 2023, while discussing Donald Trump, she stated, "No one is above the law… You can't commit so many crimes and think that you are above the law, even if you are the president." She also referenced Hunter Biden's legal situation in June 2024, proclaiming, "Hunter Biden [being] on trial shows that no one is above the law."
Gabriel Hostin avoided a misdemeanor charge and is scheduled to appear in court on July 31 regarding the trespassing citation.
