Summer Warne Recounts Teen Struggles With OCD and Intrusive Thoughts

Summer Warne, daughter of the late cricket icon Shane Warne, has opened up about her personal experience with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). The 24-year-old revealed that intrusive thoughts associated with the disorder led her to believe she was a psychopath during her teenage years.

Warne shared these details in a TikTok video during OCD Awareness Month, explaining that she did not understand her intrusive thoughts or compulsions until later in life. She noted that she had convinced herself she was a psychopath until she was 17.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a mental health condition characterized by unwanted, intrusive thoughts and repetitive behaviors or compulsions. These symptoms can cause significant anxiety and negatively impact an individual's quality of life. The type of thought Warne described, where a person's thoughts clash with their sense of self and cause distress, is known as ego-dystonic thoughts.

Treatment for OCD typically includes therapies such as Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and can involve medication like Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs). Warne is not the only public figure to speak about OCD; others, including David Beckham, Cameron Diaz, and Camila Cabello, have also shared their experiences.

This personal disclosure follows a poignant tribute Warne posted for her father, who passed away in March 2022. In her tribute, she expressed regret over not being present in his final moments and shared memories of their bond. Shane Warne, a celebrated cricketer, died at the age of 52 from a heart attack while on holiday in Thailand. He had three children with his ex-wife Simone Callahan: Brooke, Jackson, and Summer.
