Sultan of Oman Arrives for State Visit, Royal Family Hosts Banquet
King Charles and Queen Camilla welcomed the Sultan of Oman to Windsor Castle for a state visit, marked by a formal banquet.
The Sultan of Oman was welcomed to Windsor Castle on Tuesday evening for a state visit, with King Charles and Queen Camilla hosting a formal banquet in his honor. The Sultan is a leader of a key Middle Eastern strategic partner.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was also in attendance, participating in his first state banquet since assuming office. The visit included discussions on international cooperation, building on previous conversations between Burnham and the Sultan in July regarding efforts to open the Strait of Hormuz to shipping. Burnham expressed gratitude for Oman's mediation attempts.
The guest list for the event did not include non-working members of the royal family, such as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The timing of the visit coincided with the release of an interview with Prince Harry, conducted in New York, where he spoke about his relationships with his father and brother. In the interview, Prince Harry emphasized the importance of reconciliation and letting go of past issues, stating, "With everything else that's going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile - that's the key point... scars stick around forever."
Prince Harry also encouraged others to move forward from the past, noting that while some issues are harder to release, there is already "enough drama in the world and enough drama in people's lives" to dwell on family conflicts. The state banquet was held in St. George's Hall, a venue capable of seating approximately 160 guests.
