A handwritten suicide note left by Darrell Sheets, the late star of the reality television show "Storage Wars," referenced cyberbullying as a factor in his death, according to an incident report from the Lake Havasu City Police Department. Sheets died on April 22 at the age of 67 from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The note, found in a bathroom closet at his home, contained the statement, "I could not take anymore the Facebook bulling, f*** you [redacted]." Investigators confirmed that allegations of cyberbullying were incorporated into their probe of Sheets' passing.
Sheets' girlfriend told investigators that on the night of his death, he complained of insomnia and went to his home office. She reported hearing a gunshot after telling him to return to bed. The girlfriend stated that Sheets had been experiencing insomnia for months due to stress and had not discussed self-harm recently. She also mentioned a verbal argument Sheets had with his son, Brandon Sheets, and that Sheets was upset by text messages from his daughter-in-law, who questioned his girlfriend's actions regarding his finances.
Following Sheets' death, Brandon Sheets asked law enforcement to trespass his father's girlfriend from the property. Police informed him that as she had been residing there, she would need to leave voluntarily or face eviction.
An autopsy and toxicology report revealed no traces of drugs in Sheets' system. His death was officially ruled a suicide. Sheets had a history of battling depression, which he described in a 2018 Instagram post as a "24/7 battle" that "destroys all thoughts of positivity."
Sheets, who appeared in 163 episodes of "Storage Wars" from 2010 to 2023, was known for his acumen in finding valuable items at storage auctions. He had previously suffered a heart attack in 2019 and operated a shop called Havasu Show Me Your Junk in Arizona.
Brandon Sheets has shared tributes to his father on social media, expressing his love and vowing to honor his legacy. "Storage Wars" co-star Brandi Passante also offered condolences to the family.
