Stuart Broad Calls Lancashire's Treatment of James Anderson 'Disrespectful'

Stuart Broad, James Anderson's long-time England bowling partner, has stated that Lancashire's treatment of the legendary bowler was "pretty disrespectful" and showed a "lack of leadership" at the club.

Broad's comments come after news emerged that Anderson was informed of his release from Lancashire by new coach Paul Farbrace and chief executive Richard Kenyon, neither of whom were in place when Anderson initially joined the club. The news was first reported on Wednesday, with Lancashire issuing an official statement on Sunday.

During a meeting with members on Monday, the club indicated they would explore arranging a farewells for Anderson. Broad questioned the absence of the club's chair and board in the decision-making process, suggesting they should have ensured the situation was handled with more dignity.

Anderson himself expressed sadness at the situation in his first public comments on Sunday, though he has not yet announced his retirement. He had previously experienced a similar abrupt end to his England career in 2024. Reports suggest other counties are interested in signing the veteran.

Broad acknowledged the potential financial reasoning behind the decision, suggesting the club might prioritize acquiring two less experienced players over retaining Anderson's salary. However, he emphasized that Anderson remains a highly valuable asset. "He offers a huge amount, he's still one of the best bowlers in the country," Broad said. He also noted that several counties have already contacted Anderson to gauge his interest in joining them, highlighting his continued appeal and effectiveness in the sport.
