Strictly Come Dancing professional Katya Jones has reportedly been warned by BBC bosses for allegedly using her fame from the show for personal gain. The Russian dancer is accused of flouting rules by promoting a commercial venture that leverages her association with the popular dance competition.
On Monday, Jones posted a social media advertisement for Magic.fit, a company selling an AI-powered 'smart mirror' designed to offer personalized workouts. Jones has partnered with the company to develop her own dance program, marketed as a way for customers to receive 'Strictly training in the comfort of your own home.'
Sources within the BBC indicated that this move raised concerns because performers are generally prohibited from commercially exploiting BBC programs for their own benefit. An insider told The Sun that while commercial deals are permissible, there are strict guidelines regarding the use of the 'Strictly' brand.
'She was effectively selling people the chance to train with a Strictly professional, at exactly the time Strictly is back on television,' the source stated. 'She has been reminded of the rules and told she needs to be much more careful.'
Bosses at the BBC have reportedly requested that Jones edit the promotional video and accompanying social media copy. A spokesperson for BBC Studios confirmed, 'We have clear guidelines around Strictly talent's commercial activities while working with the BBC, and we regularly remind contributors of their obligations in this area.'

On a recent broadcast, viewers observed Jones appearing to mouth a word towards a fellow professional dancer after contestant Lawrence Robb's performance.
