Strictly Pros Defend New Presenting Trio Amid Viewer Criticism

Strictly Come Dancing professionals Janette Manrara and Kai Widdrington have voiced their support for the show's current presenting lineup, which has faced division among viewers. Speaking at the Pride of Britain Awards, the dancers shared their thoughts on the trio of Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe, and Johannes Radebe.

While veteran presenter Emma Willis has received praise for her role, comedian Josh Widdicombe has been described by some viewers as a "spare part." Johannes Radebe, a former professional dancer on the show, is also part of the new presenting team.

Manrara, who is also a host on the spin-off show It Takes Two, acknowledged the public's strong opinions. "I feel like there has been so much talk about them and it is the biggest show on telly," she stated. "Everyone is watching. Everyone is going to have an opinion because the two that were there before were just there for so long." She added, "So I'm so proud of them for doing what they're doing and coming out on Saturday and doing their absolute best to make it to the best show on TV's doing a good job."

Widdrington, a close friend of Radebe, expressed his pride in his friend and the entire presenting team. "Jojo's one of my best friends, so you know, naturally I'm flying his flag anywhere he goes... but I honestly think he's just done such an amazing job, all three of them," Widdicombe said. "They've really made the celebs feel very much at home and it's not the easiest thing to do when it's your first year as well, so I think they're brilliant."

When asked about negative viewer reactions, Widdrington commented, "I genuinely don't have time to look at that sort of stuff. People have their opinions and I'm just there every week enjoying myself."

The new presenting team took over from longtime hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. Despite initial criticism, particularly directed at Widdicombe's on-screen presence, some viewers have begun to warm to his style. However, frustrations have been voiced by fans who feel producers have not adjusted the presenting format in response to feedback, with Widdicombe and Willis often seen on the dance floor while Radebe is stationed in the "Clauditorium."

Online commentary has indicated disappointment that the show bosses have not varied the presenting roles between the trio in subsequent weeks, with viewers questioning why Josh Widdicombe has not been given opportunities in different segments of the show. Nonetheless, Radebe's presenting skills have reportedly seen improvement in the second week of the competition.
