Steven Van Zandt, a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band and former actor on "The Sopranos," is reportedly working on screenplays with a New Jersey setting.
Van Zandt was observed in conversation with Tom Bernard, co-head of Sony Pictures Classics, and Jon Crowley, executive director of the New Jersey Motion Picture & Television Commission, at the Bruce Springsteen Center For American Music in Long Branch, New Jersey. The gathering occurred during a screening of "The Making of Sun City," a 1985 documentary about Van Zandt's "Sun City: Artists United Against Apartheid" campaign.
A source present at the event indicated that Van Zandt discussed his focus on writing TV scripts, with New Jersey as a potential production location. Van Zandt is known for his role as Silvio Dante in "The Sopranos," appearing in 86 episodes, and for his role in the series "Lilyhammer."
His "Sun City" project in the 1980s brought together numerous musicians for a protest against apartheid, including Springsteen, Bono, Keith Richards, Lou Reed, Run-DMC, Joey Ramone, Miles Davis, and Ringo Starr.
