Steven Tyler's Vocal Cords in "Great" Shape for Aerosmith's Hollywood Bowl Shows
Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is ready to return to the stage as his vocal cords are reported to be in excellent condition.
Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler's vocal cords are in "great" shape, according to a source speaking to Page Six on Monday. This update comes as the legendary rock band prepares for two performances at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
These shows mark the band's first full concerts since they postponed their farewell tour in 2024 due to Tyler's vocal injury. The 78-year-old singer is reportedly eager to perform and share the stage with notable friends from the music industry.
A roster of special guests is being finalized, with several prominent musicians, both past and present, in discussions to join Tyler. The concerts will feature songs from Aerosmith's extensive discography.
The upcoming Hollywood Bowl performances on Oct. 29 and Nov. 1 were teased in a social media video featuring Tyler and photographer Ross Halfin. When asked if he missed performing, Tyler responded, "Of all the things I’ve ever missed, I missed my mind the most."
Aerosmith's touring activities became infrequent after Tyler sustained a significant vocal cord injury in 2023, which led to the cancellation of their "Peace Out" farewell tour. At the time, the band issued a statement explaining their decision: "Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision — as a band of brothers — to retire from the touring stage."
Despite the tour's cancellation, Aerosmith has not entirely ceased live performances. Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry performed a tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, alongside singer Yungblud. Additionally, the band collaborated with Yungblud on a five-track EP titled "One More Time," released in November 2025, their first new recording in over a decade.
The source indicated that Tyler has been diligently caring for his voice since the tour's cancellation, focusing on rehabilitation and rest. In 2022, Tyler faced a sexual assault lawsuit concerning an alleged relationship in the 1970s, which he has consistently denied. A source mentioned last month that Tyler was confident in clearing his name.
Aerosmith, formed in 1970, achieved widespread success with hits such as "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," "Angel," "Janie's Got a Gun," and "Love in an Elevator." The band has received 17 Grammy nominations, winning four.
