Steve Kerr Expresses Concern Over Kristaps Porzingis' Ongoing Health Issue
Warriors coach Steve Kerr offers a cryptic update on the center's mysterious ailment, which has kept him out of training camp.
The Golden State Warriors are facing uncertainty regarding Kristaps Porzingis' availability as the team heads into the regular season. Porzingis, who was acquired by the Warriors this offseason and signed to a two-year, $40 million extension, has missed preseason training camp due to an unspecified "health issue."
Head coach Steve Kerr addressed Porzingis' status on Thursday, offering a somber assessment. "He’s not here today," Kerr told reporters. "I’ll reach out to KP today and check in with him, but nothing new to report."
Porzingis was diagnosed with POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) in 2025, and while his current absence has not been officially linked to the condition, it is widely believed to be related. Kerr's previous description of the ailment as "a little mysterious" last season, when Porzingis was with the Boston Celtics, has persisted.
Despite the lack of concrete information, Kerr confirmed he has been in contact with Porzingis via text. "Seems to be doing okay, but we haven’t gotten into depth," Kerr said. He acknowledged the team would prefer to have Porzingis participating in preseason activities but stressed the importance of his health. "He’s got to take care of his health, and again, we’ll support that and keep moving forward with the team."
