A video circulating on X appears to show New York Mets owner Steve Cohen standing and clapping for Pete Alonso’s 300th career home run on Tuesday night. The milestone occurred during a game where Alonso, now with the Baltimore Orioles, was playing against the Mets at Citi Field.

The video, posted Wednesday, captured Cohen seemingly rising from his seat and gesturing to the crowd before applauding.

The footage emerged shortly after Cohen commented on a report about team executive David Stearns's recent absences. Cohen posted on X, "That’s strange. I was in the dugout pre game on Monday with a guy that looked like Stearns. Was it an imposter?"

Alonso's 300th home run helped send the game into extra innings, though the Orioles ultimately secured a 7-5 victory with an inside-the-park homer in the 11th inning. Mets players acknowledged the crowd's reaction to Alonso, understanding it as an appreciation for his contributions to the team and city.

Mets player Soto commented, “I don’t think they turned on us. I think they just cheered for him. He did everything for this city, for this organization, and I feel like they appreciated it and they were cheering for him.”

Alonso signed a five-year, $155 million contract with the Orioles in the offseason after the Mets did not extend a long-term offer to the seven-year veteran. The Mets’ season has faced challenges following the departures of key players like Alonso, Brandon Nimmo, and Edwin Diaz.

The Mets currently hold a 69-83 record and are set to host the Phillies for a four-game series this weekend, their third-to-last series of the season.
