Steve Belichick's Wife Addresses Resignation Amid UNC Investigation

Jen Belichick, wife of former University of North Carolina defensive coordinator Steve Belichick, has publicly addressed his resignation, citing "misinformation and speculation" surrounding the circumstances. Her statement came as UNC concluded an internal investigation into its football program.
Released to ESPN’s Field Yates, Jen Belichick expressed gratitude for their time in Chapel Hill, stating, "We are very proud of our influence on the positive direction of the program." She emphasized the family's priority: "Our priority will always be to show up with a healthy and strong mind for ourselves and our 5 children." The statement also noted the value of "relationships that have been fostered here in North Carolina" and thanked those who positively impacted their experience.
Addressing the ongoing narratives, Jen Belichick added, "Unfortunately there is misinformation and speculation about our own situation, but we believe prioritizing health as the most important thing you can do in this life and is invaluable compared to anything else. We strongly encourage anyone in need of support to utilize their resources in order to achieve the best version of themselves."
Steve Belichick had been on medical leave since early August, with his resignation set to take effect on October 27. Reports from WRAL indicated that lawyers hired by UNC had been inquiring about allegations concerning Steve Belichick's alleged use or distribution of drugs at work.
In its announcement of the investigation's conclusion, UNC stated that "certain actions demonstrated a disregard for Carolina’s values and standards of conduct." The university specified that these actions were "isolated in scope and not a systemic failure."
Steve Belichick, son of six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach Bill Belichick, previously worked on his father's staff with the New England Patriots from 2012 to 2023. He also served as defensive coordinator for the University of Washington in 2024 before joining UNC last year.
