Steve Bannon, a prominent voice in the MAGA movement and former chief strategist for Donald Trump, has issued a stark warning regarding the ascendance of what he terms 'Marxist jihadists' within the Democratic Party. Bannon claims this movement, exemplified by figures like Zohran Mamdani, is poised to seize control of the United States, aiming for "ultimate power" within the next three to five years.

Bannon's concerns stem from recent electoral successes attributed to socialist candidates. Three openly socialist candidates secured victories in their Democratic primaries in New York City, with Mamdani's endorsement and campaign assistance cited as key factors. This trend appears to be spreading beyond New York, as evidenced by the recent ousting of an incumbent Democrat in Denver by Melat Kiros, a 29-year-old who is described as a Mamdani acolyte.

In an interview with Politico, Bannon argued that the Republican Party must pivot from traditional policies, such as tax cuts and foreign interventions, to effectively counter the economic messaging of the left. He believes the old political playbook is becoming obsolete.

"Mamdani and his troops, his forces, they understand that they’re playing for keeps," Bannon told Politico. "They believe that they are on the rise, and they have within their grasp to take control of the most powerful nation in the history of the Earth in its 250th year." He further articulated the perceived ambition, stating, "In the next three to five years, they believe they will get ultimate power, and if you don’t stop it, they just might."

Mamdani, a 34-year-old democratic socialist and former state assemblyman, stunned the political establishment last year when he defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo

Mamdani, a 34-year-old democratic socialist and former state assemblyman, gained national attention last year when he defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary before winning the general election. His platform has included proposals such as free public transportation, city-run grocery stores, and rent freezes, which Bannon suggests have become a model for other left-leaning candidates nationwide.

Bannon suggested that donors were initially dismissive of his warnings about Mamdani's potential, citing Cuomo's substantial financial backing and endorsements. "When I went and talked to donors about what was coming, they laughed in my face," Bannon recalled.

Bannon also indicated that emerging forces, including artificial intelligence and the influence of oligarchs, alongside the perceived threat from socialist movements, will reshape the political landscape. He believes those who confront these changes will see a rise in influence.
