Stephen King Aids Scottish Football Club Facing Financial Woes
The best-selling author, a known fan of the Highland League team, has contributed financially to help alleviate their reported monthly losses.
Master of horror Stephen King has stepped in to assist Buckie Thistle, a small Scottish football club facing significant financial difficulties. King, author of renowned works such as "The Shining," has a long-standing affinity for the Highland League team, having featured them in his 2020 book "If It Bleeds."
Daniel Farquhar, the club's interim president, confirmed King's donation, stating, "It is fantastic. We don’t want to disclose the sum but it is a nice little figure that will keep us going."
The Banffshire club is reportedly losing approximately £20,000 per month, and fundraising efforts are underway to secure the £150,000 to £200,000 needed for its continued operation. Following news of the club's predicament, King sent two signed copies of his book "If It Bleeds" to Buckie Thistle. One copy was auctioned to aid fundraising, while the other was retained by the club.
In response, the team sent merchandise to King, who expressed his gratitude by sharing a photograph of himself wearing the club's shirt and scarf. This gesture highlights the author's continued support for the team he has previously championed in his writing.
