ESPN Films is set to release a documentary chronicling the life and career of Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry. Titled "Portrait of an Artist," the film will debut in IMAX theaters on October 9.
The trailer, released Monday, offers a glimpse into Curry's 17-year Hall of Fame career, highlighting his evolution into one of basketball's most celebrated shooters. The documentary promises to explore his journey from his earliest days with a basketball to his current status as a prominent athlete.
"I've been around basketball my whole life. But the more I played, the more I started to see it differently," Curry says in the trailer. "For me, it’s never just been a game. It’s always felt more like an art."
The film will feature footage spanning from Curry's childhood to present-day highlights, interspersed with commentary from various voices. One narration in the trailer states, "Every great artist has that something, that signature where the world kind of stops and says, ‘Yeah that’s them.’"
"Portrait of an Artist" is expected to delve into both the triumphs and challenges of Curry's career, including significant injuries and landmark achievements. He became the first player to reach 4,000 career three-pointers on March 13, 2025. The documentary also incorporates imagery of other artists, such as musicians like Freddie Mercury, suggesting a broader theme of artistry that extends beyond sports.
The trailer concludes with Curry reflecting, "This is what I was meant to do," followed by commentator Kevin Harlan's declaration, "Truly the portrait of an artist. Unbelievable."
