Stephen Curry Cleared to Play in Warriors' Season Opener

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr announced on Monday that Stephen Curry is healthy and expected to play in the team's season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night. Curry had left the Warriors' open practice early on Sunday due to an ankle injury, prompting concerns among fans and team personnel.

"He's fine. Yeah, he practiced full today," Kerr told Clutch Points. He added that while he was initially concerned when Curry limped off the court, the star guard reassured him immediately that he was not seriously hurt.

Last season, Curry's availability was limited, as he appeared in only 43 games due to a runner's knee injury. His absence significantly impacted the team's performance, with the Warriors holding a 24-19 record when he played and a 13-26 record when he did not. During the previous season, Curry averaged 26.6 points, shooting 46.8% from the field and 39.3% from three-point range. He also contributed 3.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game over an average of 30.9 minutes.

In September, Curry and the Warriors agreed to a two-year contract extension valued at $116 million, with a player option for the 2028-2029 season.

Meanwhile, the Lakers are also facing injury challenges. Forward Jimmy Butler is not expected to be available for the season opener as he recovers from a torn ACL, with a potential return in late January or early February. Kristaps Porzingis's timeline for return is currently undetermined, as he is out indefinitely.
