Stephen A. Smith, host of the "Straight Shooter" podcast, has voiced skepticism regarding the substantial financial fortunes accumulated by former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. Smith contends that politicians' personal financial gains should be contingent upon the economic well-being of the American people.

"I don't give a damn what money politicians slide into their own pockets from time to time," Smith stated on a recent podcast episode. "If the American people are prospering, get yours. It's a capitalistic society."

He specifically questioned the source of wealth for both former presidents, noting their prior financial standing. "Clinton was a lawyer in Arkansas. Grew up poor, relatively broke. How the hell him and the Clinton Foundation is worth hundreds of millions of dollars beat me," Smith said. He also pointed to Obama's career trajectory, stating, "Barack Obama was a community organizer who became the president of the United States and, last time I checked, that salary ain't over $450,000, if I remember correctly."

Smith raised the question of how Obama departed office with a net worth exceeding $200 million. He suggested that while he does not object to politicians earning money, his concern arises because he believes the American people are not currently prospering. "I'm cool with it if the American people are prospering, but last time I checked, that's not the case," he added.

According to a Forbes investigation, Bill and Hillary Clinton have reportedly earned approximately $240 million since leaving office. Bill Clinton is cited as contributing the majority of these earnings through book authorship and paid speeches. A separate Forbes assessment indicated that Barack Obama amassed a net worth of around $70 million by 2024, with approximately $20 million gained during his 12 years in public service as a senator and president.
