Steph Curry Injury Scare Eases Before Warriors' Season Opener

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry left an open practice on Sunday with an ankle injury, causing concern among those present at the Chase Center. Head coach Steve Kerr later confirmed that Curry is “fine” and the injury is not considered serious, according to Nick Freidell of The Athletic and ESPN’s Anthony Slater.

Curry, 38, was seen limping off the court and into the locker room during the practice session. While the exact nature of the incident remains unclear, a team source told Slater that the ankle injury is not believed to be severe.

Last season, Curry was limited to 43 games due to a knee injury. During that time, he averaged 26.6 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game, with shooting percentages of 46.8% from the field and 39.3% from three-point range. The Warriors' record stood at 24-19 when Curry played and 13-26 when he was sidelined.

The Warriors are set to begin their season on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Lakers. The team is already managing other injury concerns, with Kristaps Porzingis out indefinitely due to a “secret illness” and Jimmy Butler expected to return around late January or early February from a torn ACL.

Earlier in September, Curry and the Warriors agreed to a two-year, $116 million contract extension, which includes a player option for the 2028-2029 season.
