Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry has broken his silence regarding LeBron James' highly anticipated free agency decision, stating his interest in the possibility of them playing together.

Curry, who was participating in the American Century Championship, a celebrity golf tournament at Edgewood Tahoe Resort, addressed questions about James potentially joining him in the Bay Area. James is currently the top free agent of the summer, concluding eight seasons with the Lakers and prompting widespread speculation about his next move.

"I'd say more so I'm interested to just play golf with LeBron," Curry said Wednesday. "We'll handle the basketball stuff, but I want to see the golf LeBron free agent. He's out here really grinding on the game. But I'm sure we obviously would love to play together."

He added, "I mean, hopefully it happens. But he's deserved the opportunity and the right to take his time with the decision."

James' free agency process has been closely managed by his agent, Rich Paul. While the Warriors are considered among the teams in contention, they are not necessarily seen as the frontrunner.

It was previously reported that Golden State was one of two teams James was considering, though the landscape of his options appears to have shifted. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat are reportedly emerging as strong contenders, but details surrounding the decision-making process remain largely private.

In 2024, James and Curry collaborated for the first time in their careers, leading Team USA to a gold medal at the Paris Olympics and showcasing significant on-court chemistry. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr also coached James during this Olympic run. Neither player is expected to participate in the 2028 Olympics, making their Olympic partnership a singular event.

However, a potential reunion on the NBA hardwood is still possible. NBA insider Shams Charania reported that for the Warriors to sign James, they would need to acquire Anthony Davis. Such a trade would be costly for Golden State, likely requiring a significant package of players, potentially including Jimmy Butler, and would place the Washington Wizards in a strong negotiating position.

Any trade discussions for Davis would necessitate prior assurance from James that he intends to sign with the Warriors. James and his representatives have maintained discretion throughout the deliberations. While the Warriors remain a possibility for the veteran forward, other franchises appear to have an advantage in securing his commitment.

Speculation suggests that if James were to sign with the Cavaliers, he could conclude his career in the city where it began. A return to Miami could see him rejoin a franchise where he secured two NBA championships and two Finals MVP awards. At this stage of his career, James is reportedly prioritizing overall basketball fulfillment in his decision.
