Stepdad Arrested After Doctors Discover 10-Year-Old Stepdaughter Is Pregnant

A 10-year-old girl's severe stomach pain led to the discovery that she was six months pregnant, prompting the arrest of her stepfather.

The girl's mother, 25, brought her daughter to a hospital in Colonia Dora, Argentina, due to complaints of stomach pain. During the examination, the parent mentioned her daughter had not had her period, leading doctors to reveal the advanced stage of the pregnancy.

Authorities were alerted, and the girl told investigators that she had been sexually abused by her stepfather, identified as 33-year-old Julio Vivas. Vivas was arrested at the home he shared with his partner and her daughter. Police also seized his mobile phone.

He is currently in custody as the investigation into the alleged abuse continues. Official charges have not yet been announced.

The girl's grandmother, Norma Gomez, stated she had previously warned her daughter not to trust Vivas, whom she met online, or leave him alone with the child. "I went through the same thing the little girl went through when I was eight years old," Gomez told Noticiero 7. "I know what it's like to suffer."

The girl's teacher described her as a quiet student who performed well academically and showed no signs of distress or unusual behavior.

This case follows a similar incident in Brazil a few months prior, where a 10-year-old girl gave birth to her stepfather's child. In that case, hospital staff alerted police due to the victim's age, and the 23-year-old stepfather was arrested on accusations of repeated rape. The girls' mother was also arrested for allegedly attempting to protect her partner.

According to a 2023 government report, more than 40% of sexual violence victims in Argentina are children or adolescents. Data from 2016 to 2021 indicates a significant increase in sexual violence cases nationwide, rising from 13,003 to 41,697.
