Stefon Diggs, a two-time All-Pro wide receiver, has agreed to a one-year contract with the Washington Commanders, according to multiple reports. The deal is valued at up to $12 million for the 32-year-old player, who was the top wide receiver remaining in free agency as training camps began.
The signing provides Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels with a new offensive weapon. For Diggs, the move represents a homecoming, as he was born in Gaithersburg, within the D.C. metropolitan area, and grew up in Maryland. He is expected to pair with Terry McLaurin in Washington.
Diggs joined the Patriots after spending the majority of his career with the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills, followed by shorter stints with the Houston Texans and New England. He led the Patriots with 85 receptions and 1,013 receiving yards in the previous season, becoming the team's first receiver to surpass 1,000 yards since 2019. The Patriots released Diggs in March, and head coach Mike Vrabel confirmed the team was not pursuing a reunion. New England acquired A.J. Brown in the offseason to serve as the primary receiver for Drake Maye.
Diggs has faced legal challenges in recent years, including accusations of drugging and sexual assault from 2023, though he was recently acquitted on assault charges in a separate case involving his former personal chef.
