Steelers Head Coach Mike McCarthy Injures Ankle, Coaches Remainder of Game from Sideline
The 62-year-old coach required attention in the blue tent during halftime after appearing to sustain an injury late in the first half against Tampa Bay.
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy, 62, spent halftime in the blue tent after suffering a painful ankle injury on the sideline during Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. McCarthy was seen limping and needing assistance to reach the tent late in the first half. He was examined and treated for the injury, allowing him to return to coach the remainder of the game.
McCarthy noted the conditions inside the tent, stating, "I don't recommend it. It's really hot in there." Despite the discomfort, he remained on the sideline for the duration of the contest.
Under McCarthy's guidance, the Steelers mounted a comeback after trailing the Buccaneers 13-3 at halftime. Pittsburgh scored 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to force overtime. The Steelers secured a 26-19 victory on their opening overtime drive, with the win sealed when Buccaneers rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels was sacked on fourth down.
The victory brought the Steelers' season record to 4-2, placing them in a three-way tie atop the AFC North standings. The team is scheduled to travel to Paris next week to face the New Orleans Saints at the Stade de France.
