Steelers Coach Mike McCarthy Injures Ankle, Spends Halftime in Medical Tent

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy spent the entirety of halftime in the team's medical tent receiving treatment for an ankle injury sustained late in the first half of Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. McCarthy was seen limping off the field as the first half concluded and remained in the tent through the break.

Despite the injury, McCarthy was on the sidelines for the start of the third quarter. The 62-year-old coach is in his first season leading the Steelers, having previously worked with quarterback Aaron Rodgers during their time with the Green Bay Packers. McCarthy also had a five-year tenure with the Dallas Cowboys before a hiatus from the NFL in 2025.

The Steelers entered the game with a 3-2 record. They were trailing the Buccaneers 13-3 at halftime. Earlier on Sunday, NFL umpire Larry Smith was carted off the field in London after slipping on wet grass during the Texans' game against the Jaguars.
