Stars Shine, and Some Miss the Mark, at Singapore Grand Prix
Celebrities and Formula 1 personalities turned the Singapore Grand Prix into a fashion event, with mixed results on the style front.
The Singapore Grand Prix saw a constellation of stars descend upon the Marina Bay Street Circuit, transforming the event into a de facto fashion runway. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Romeo Beckham, and numerous Formula 1 "WAGs" mingled in the paddock, showcasing a range of styles from glamorous to casually understated.
Kim Kardashian garnered attention for her fashion choices throughout the weekend. On Saturday, she wore a sheer pink maxi dress from Alaïa's spring 2024 collection, reportedly priced at £2,290. She accessorized with a matching Hermes Mini Kelly bag and dark sunglasses. For Sunday's race, she opted for a figure-hugging floral dress with a cut-out neckline and corset bodice, paired with stiletto heels.
Other attendees also drew commentary for their sartorial decisions. Eileen Gu, the Chinese-American skier and model, was noted for her casual attire of frayed denim shorts and an oversized white shirt. Carmen Montero Mundt, fiancée of Mercedes driver George Russell, opted for a unique combination of trousers with a skirt overlay. Mika Abdalla, star of "Off Campus," wore a grey two-piece outfit that some observers felt missed the mark. South Korean singer Jan Woung-young's all-black ensemble, paired with flats, also received mixed reactions.
Models and partners of drivers showcased a variety of looks. Kim Turnbull arrived in a white coat dress with a red handbag. Kelly Piquet, partner of winner Max Verstappen, wore a striking black and white ensemble. Lily Muni He, fiancée of Alex Albon, was seen in a red dress that appeared to have creased in the heat. Yaya Urassaya Sperbund wore dark denim jeans and a black crop top, while Minju Jo opted for a short crop top and white jeans.
Some stars were praised for adhering to the event's smart-casual dress code. Victoria Swarovski donned black trousers and a top, complemented by a white jacket and stylish glasses. K-Pop band MEOVV presented a more eclectic range of outfits.
Romeo Beckham kept his look casual with a black T-shirt, jeans, and silver chains. His girlfriend, Kim Turnbull, added a touch of glamour with a white shirt jacket.
The racing event itself was marked by a delay due to torrential rain shortly before the start. Max Verstappen secured his first win at the Singapore Grand Prix, finishing ahead of Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton experienced a difficult race, falling from third to sixth and later requiring medical attention, which led to him being excused from post-race media duties. Hamilton's teammate Charles Leclerc finished third, while the McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri crashed near the end.
