A squirrel was observed seeking refuge from the heat by taking a dip under a garden sprinkler. The animal was drawn to the area with the promise of hidden snacks before venturing under the spray of water.
Photographer Geert Weggen documented the squirrel's cooling efforts in his garden in Bispgården, Sweden. Weggen, 57, explained that he had set up a shower feature near a large animal bath he maintains for local wildlife.
While some animals avoided the new shower, many, including the squirrel, chose to get wet. The presence of food attracted the animals to the location.
The squirrel was photographed engaging with the water, ducking and diving beneath the spray. In one instance, the animal balanced on flower branches while cooling off.
It also appeared to drink from the sprinkler, seemingly in an effort to combat the rising temperatures.
